In a recent circular, Enterprise Singapore has addressed the testing, certification, and registration requirements for collapsible electric washing machines and collapsible electric kettles under the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations (CPSR). This regulatory update aims to provide clarity and ensure consumer safety in Singapore's market.
According to the circular issued on 16th February 2024, collapsible electric washing machines and collapsible electric kettles are categorized as Controlled Goods (CG) under the existing definitions for washing machines and liquid heating appliances, respectively. However, these collapsible products have the added feature of being easily collapsible for convenient storage or travel.
Effective starting 17th February 2025, suppliers must register collapsible electric washing machines and collapsible electric kettles under the CPSR and affix them with the Safety Mark before distributing them in Singapore. The Safety Mark serves as an identifier for Registered Controlled goods, providing assurance to consumers and suppliers alike. It is important to note that these collapsible products must comply with the same safety standards required for the registration of non-collapsible products.
For collapsible washing machines, compliance with the IEC 60335-2-7 standard, the applicable IEC standard for electric washing machines, is mandatory. Similarly, collapsible liquid heating appliances must adhere to the IEC 60335-2-15 standard, which is the relevant IEC standard for electric kettles.
This regulatory update will have a significant impact on brands, retailers, and manufacturers operating in the Singapore market. It emphasizes the importance of ensuring the safety of collapsible products through proper testing, certification, and registration. By complying with these requirements, businesses can build trust with consumers and demonstrate their commitment to providing reliable and secure products.
To ensure compliance for home appliances, it is recommended to have product safety testing conducted by a reliable third-party provider such as QIMA.
