ECHA Launches Consultation on Three Chemicals for SVHC Candidate List

ECHA, SVHC, Substances of Very High Concern, Chemical Regulation, EU Compliance, Regulatory Update

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has initiated a public consultation to evaluate three additional chemicals for potential inclusion in the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). If these substances are officially recognized, the total number of SVHCs will rise from 247 to 250.

What This Means for Businesses

Companies in the cosmetics, personal care, automotive, and textile industries should assess the potential impact of these listings. If the substances are classified as SVHCs, companies may need to explore alternative formulations, adjust supply chain strategies, and ensure compliance with evolving EU regulations.

Next Steps

The consultation period is open until mid-April 2025, after which ECHA will review feedback and decide whether to add these chemicals to the SVHC Candidate List. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the consultation process and prepare for possible regulatory changes.
