The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has initiated a public consultation to evaluate three additional chemicals for potential inclusion in the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). If these substances are officially recognized, the total number of SVHCs will rise from 247 to 250.
On February 28, 2025, ECHA opened a 45-day public consultation to assess the following chemicals:
Substance Name | EC Number | CAS Number | Reason for Inclusion | Possible Usage |
1,1,1,3,5,5,5-heptamethyl-3-[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]trisiloxane | 241-867-7 | 17928-28-8 | vPvB* (Article 57e) | Cosmetics and personal care products, perfumes, fragrances |
Decamethyltetrasiloxane | 205-491-7 | 141-62-8 | vPvB* (Article 57e) | Cosmetics, personal care, non-metal surface treatment, lubricants, greases, release products, automotive care, cleaning products |
Tetra(sodium/potassium) 7-[(E)-{2-acetamido-4-[(E)-(4-{[4-chloro-6-({2-[(4-fluoro-6-{[4-(vinylsulfonyl)phenyl]amino}-1,3,5-triazine-2-yl)amino]propyl}amino)-1,3,5-triazine-2-yl]amino}-5-sulfonato-1-naphthyl)diazenyl]-5-methoxyphenyl}diazenyl]-1,3,6-naphthalenetrisulfonate; Reactive Brown 51 | 466-490-7 | / | Toxic for reproduction (Article 57c) | Textile treatment products and dyes |
*VPvB = very Persistent and very Bioaccumulative
Companies in the cosmetics, personal care, automotive, and textile industries should assess the potential impact of these listings. If the substances are classified as SVHCs, companies may need to explore alternative formulations, adjust supply chain strategies, and ensure compliance with evolving EU regulations.
The consultation period is open until mid-April 2025, after which ECHA will review feedback and decide whether to add these chemicals to the SVHC Candidate List. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the consultation process and prepare for possible regulatory changes.
